Here at the Village we successfully launched our new cohorts of Baby Promise & Circles.
Baby Promise is our 8-week parent and child education course for families in Homewood with children ages 0-5. This program prepares young children to be socially, emotionally, and academically equipped for kindergarten. Parents enjoy peer learning and support groups, while connecting to resources in the community. Baby Promise sessions are held Feb 3rd through March 24th.
Circles is a powerful program designed to help families get out of poverty. Participants become leaders in a program that is built around their established goals. They receive support from peers and get connected to resources on their journey to self-sufficiency. Circles Homewood is a partnership between Circles Greater Pittsburgh and the Homewood Children’s Village.
At the kickoff orientation, we were joined by Circles Coach Gwen Lane and Baby Promise Facilitator Danyelle Johnson. We had a total of 17 families in attendance and 30 children, ages 1 and up.
Valerie Dixon from Victims of Violent Crimes spoke on Trauma Informed Care, she will lead future additional sessions on this topic as well. Other speakers included, Fund My Future and Tammy Thompson, a Circles Alumni, who gave an overview of her experience in the program.
Both programs meet every Saturday at the YWCA, located at 6907 Frankstown Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15208, from 11:30 am – 2:00 pm. Childcare and Food are provided.
